We are not entirely sure where the traditional term 'tripel' comes from. It could refer to the triple amount of ingredients we use in brewing, and the heaviness of the beer obtained as a result. According to other sources, breweries in the past gave the beer with the highest alcohol percentage the name Tripel, to distinguish it from the other beers. That doesn't apply to us, our heaviest beer is the Grand Prestige. With 8.5%, Hertog Jan Tripel is one of our heaviest beers. Despite that solid content, it is characterized by a smooth and accessible character. It is beautiful blonde in color and tastes malty to sweet, with a soft bitterness and a palette of fruit flavors. The secondary fermentation of our Tripel takes place in the bottle. This ensures a fresher and richer taste. It's a beer to take your time for.
